Jellyfish | biological information

Medusae are some of the first swimmers using the simplest materials and hydrodynamic principles. Therefore a good target for developing biomimetic device.

Limits of tissue design have resulted in two basic swimming modes.  The largest swimmers are generally rowers, jetters are typically smaller but some colonial forms can be relatively long.

Advances in materials and propulsive technologies have opend the possiblity of mimicing these swimmers to create new aquatic vehicles with a range of potential applications.
